Or rather two days ago, but I've been busy traveling and shooting this anniversary video so it is only today that I'm ready to share the final product with you. I never really know what to say when my blog birthday/anniversary rolls around--I never knew back then that I would keep at it this long! There are a number of things I wouldn't have anticipated happening back then that have come to pass, but they have and here we are. I could probably go on for a bit about what has changed and what blogging means to me but the short of it is: I really like blogging. I like taking pictures on a regular basis because it takes me outside and makes me appreciate my surroundings in a different way. I like sharing all that online and connecting to people with similar interests who I never would have "met" otherwise. I feel incredibly lucky.<br />Thomas helped me make this video in honor of my blog turning seven years old. It's short and sweet and just a little "thank you" to everyone's who's been following along. For seven years there are seven different outfits and locations featured in the video--I wish I could have fit in seven completely different hairstyles (long! short! red! blue!) but the video was a few days rather than seven years in the making. How To Pronounce The Hardest Names In Fashion

I even recall discussions with friends and industry people over the correct pronunciation of Proenza Schouler when they were fresh on the scene. It's understandably confusing as the names come from all over the world and are mostly seen in print rather than heard in video. i-D's cute video above not only helps teach the correct pronunciation but is a visual feast for the eyes featuring the clothes of the designers featured on some of the hottest models in the industry.</div>

Aran Isles Rewind

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="398" mozallowfullscreen="" src="//player.vimeo.com/video/95698147?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=64357a" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="530"></iframe>On my last few days in Ireland Thomas and I took a trip to the Aran Isles; we didn't take many pictures but Thomas brought an old video camera and caught some really beautiful moments from our visit to the islands. The video camera is one from his childhood, an old 8mm Sony Handycam that he used to mess around with when he was little and recently re-found. I'm sort of quoting Thomas a lot in this post because while he didn't want to write the text the video is his so it seems only fitting to try to describe it from his perspective. Thomas works as a professional editor, so working with videos is his day-to-day but this was a fun side project, something nostalgic and almost dream-like. He wanted to capture a memory--to time travel 10 years into the future and remember what this trip was like when we were younger. I think he achieved that; a hazy, relaxed movie to watch on days when life's not a vacation. I hope you enjoy!</div>

One of my new favorites has to be this short titled "Roshambo" by <a href="http://www.freepeople.com/" target="_blank">Free People</a>. Starring actor Christopher Abbott and model/actress Sheila Marquez, it tells a sweet love story with an expiration date. I'm definitely craving Sheila Marquez's bohemian cool-girl looks for spring with her undone hair and flowing layers.</div>

The Grand Budapest Hotel

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="398" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/2bTbW70umbQ?rel=0" width="530"></iframe><br />All qualms I might have about Wes Anderson films are outweighed for my admiration of his aesthetics--his films are a feast for the eyes. <i>The Grand Budapest Hotel</i> which will debut in 2014 looks as decadent as his previous films and even from the preview you can see him continuing to expand his surreal world. With earlier films like <i>Rushmore</i> or <i>Royal Tennenbaums</i> he worked on location and while set design was impressive his style reached a new height after his stop-motion <i>Fantastic Mr Fox</i>. In <i>Moonrise Kingdom</i> he used a doll house like set similar to the style necessary for his stop-motion film and you can see a new quirkiness in camera direction, not to mention decadence in set design that wasn't there in previous films. <i>Grand Budapest Hotel</i> already feels like a continuation of that style and such a wonderful explosion of color. I'm ridiculously excited for it to hit theaters.</div>

Viva Vena: Fashion Film

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="298" mozallowfullscreen="" src="//player.vimeo.com/video/58933055?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&badge=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="530"></iframe><br /><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I recently stumbled across this commercial by <a href="http://www.venacava.com/" target="_blank">Vena Cava</a> for their <a href="http://www.vivavena.com/" target="_blank">Viva Vena!</a> diffusion line that mocks the typical aesthetic of "fashion films" (and I might add a good number of blogs, including my own) delivered in perfect deadpan by Lizzy Caplan that simultaneously advertising their clothes in soft light on a size 0 body...it's cleverly tongue-in-cheek equal parts mocking and utilizing the trope for their own benefit. Fashion (or the clothes-obsessed) is often the brunt of the joke, so it's nice to see a brand with a sense of humor joining into the joke instead of acting aloof and above it all. But there's really no need to over-analyze it--just watch and laugh at her typing into an empty typewriter or playing with a record that reads "obscure record from the 60s."</div></div>

Samantha Pleet Spring 2014: Arcadia

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="298" mozallowfullscreen="" src="//player.vimeo.com/video/74019873?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="530"></iframe><br />During fashion week I had the privilege of tagging along with Erin for a studio visit to <a href="http://www.samanthapleet.com/" target="_blank">Samantha Pleet</a> and I'm so glad I did! Her collection is stunning full of gem prints, jewel tones, signature twists, and delightful separates that makes me want to wear shorts and go adventuring! Instead of a traditional show or presentation Pleet decided to create an original film featuring her designs this season and it's a stunning short. "Arcadia" was inspired by Charles Darwin’s journals written during his early voyages to the uncharted islands of Tiera Del Fuego. It looks like it was so much fun to shoot and end result is incredibly charming.
