Needless to say when it arrived in the mail it went directly from the bag to my back without a pause for ironing. I'll get around to that before I wear it next time. Layer Up

A few days ago I could get away with only a light jacket, but I'm officially starting my serious layering and hunting up all the gloves and mittens I can find. Burger Queen

I only get a burger and fries maybe once a week, but they taste so good! My friends tease me because I'd usually rather eat at Burger King than a fancy restaurant, but I'm addicted to their fries. Ironically as a child I rarely ate fast food. My sisters and I used to see McDonalds' ads on the television and we'd beg our parents to take us but they always refused. Eventually one day they gave in and we got our much coveted Happy Meals and we actually hated them! My tastebuds have definitely changed since then and probably not for the better. Anyway, I was this close to buying a <a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Fhandbags%2Feyes%2Don%2Dthe%2Dfries%2Dpouch" target="_blank">purse in the shape of fries</a> but ultimately resisted because the shape was too similar to my popcorn purse. I'm Not Confused, I'm Well Mixed

It isn't a conscious decision, I think my more minimalist tendencies have just come out more through the years. I'm trying to get a better lock on my style lately--well, more than usual. I mean style is this constantly evolving target; as soon as you start to figure out how you like to look some aspect of your life changes and you need to adjust. You suddenly feel "too old" for certain pieces or all those pretty blouses you had for your office job feel too stuffy in a new creative position. I've hung on to many pieces for sentimental reasons or because they were in good condition and now I'm having to think very hard if they're worth paying to move across an ocean...It's a good thing I've moved around often enough that clothes are my main concern. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1t/stjohnsbury-13_zps2e9a4dc0.jpg" /><br />I've had this dress by <a href="http://heinui.tictail.com/" target="_blank">Heinui</a> since the summer, but since it's made out of a lovely thick material I had to wait for cooler months to wear it. Sometimes people wonder how I wear dresses in chilly, even snowy weather, but not all dresses are created equal! Neither are tights for that matter, I always stock up the highest denier tights I can find for extra thickness and if I'm not layering underneath my dresses I look for ones with longer sleeves and warmer fabrics. This dress was definitely made to be worn when it cools off and the interesting waist detail and bow back make it far from your average shirtdress. I think I finally found mine. I have loads of black dresses in my closet (although I just cleared out a few!), but none of them are that "throw it on and go" quality I've been wanting in a little black dress. Until <a href="http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-5617630-10968135?url=http%3A%2F%2Fshopruche.com%2F5th-avenue-polka-dot-dress.html%3Futm_source%3DCJ%26utm_content%3Dproductfeed%26utm_campaign%3DCJ_Products&cjsku=37160" target="_blank">this one</a>. I'm definitely going to stop looking at black dresses now, because this is one I could easily wear everyday. I didn't properly photograph the details, but this dress has a nice textured quality. Anyway, the reason I've wanted a perfect black dress it because I like quirky accessories. With a lot of my favorite clothes they're simple bases that I can build on top of; sleeveless dresses get blouses layered underneath, neutrals work well with colorful or patterned tights--a plain dress like this makes <a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Fhandbags%2Fbetsey%2Djohnson%2Daudio%2Dthrilled%2Dthe%2Dradio%2Dbag" target="_blank">my cute radio purse</a> stand out even more. How fun is this purse too? It's actually a functioning set of speakers, although I'm not super impressed with the sound quality. Still, I fell in love with the way it looks, the speakers are just a bonus. And since we're on things I like in my outfit: these flats. I always have a pair of black flats and usually wear them until they have holes, so it's nice to replace my beat-up old pair with <a href="http://lolyinthesky.com/collections/fall-winter-2014/products/martina" target="_blank">this</a> snazzy new set...<br />All in all just a perfect outfit I love wearing right now. Quite functional too for all of the errands I have to run today. Loads of packages to ship out and more clothes to sort through and list in my temporary pop-up. Moving abroad permanently is quite complicated! It's hard to figure out what to keep and what to get rid of--like my sewing machine. If I keep it I need to get a converter, but if I sell it I'll have to buy another one once I'm settled in Northern Ireland. In case you were wondering whatever happened to the pumpkins Thomas and I picked at that patch in Vermont--this is it! We didn't have a place to carve them properly in Vermont so they ended up rolling around the backseat of my car for about a week and driving me crazy every time I took a turn or had to brake. But eventually we were back at my home and able to carve them up.
