Style Crush: Valentina

She runs the blog <a href="http://www.factorystyleblog.com/" target="_blank"><i>Factory Style</i></a>, but is best known for her street style photographs as she's very popular with Vanessa Jackman and Stockholm Street Style. I really enjoy her playful, yet sophisticated approach to fashion--she wears luxe pieces so well in brocade coats fit for royalty, but looks equally at ease in mixed prints and a straw boater hat. There is a sense of exaggeration to her looks; she might wear a white blouse & plaid skirt but the blouse imitates Edwardian styles and the skirt is paired with leopard print heels. I stumbled across the site one day through a reverse image search and have been hooked ever since. So many of the users have dynamic, interesting style that I don't see anywhere else. I love 徐一个's ability to mix up her style from cute, layered looks, to retro-inspired menswear, to modern minimalism she rocks them all. This fall I'm taking inspiration from her quirky mix of layers and unique color combinations.</div>

Style Crush: Johanna Ost

She reminds me of Dita Von Teese in her level of commitment and how anachronistic she looks when photographed by modern settings. I first followed her on Flickr, but she switched over to <a href="http://blog.johannaost.com/" target="_blank">a blog</a> around 2012 and doesn't seem to update as frequently. Still, her retro-perfect style continues to be a huge inspiration. I think most vintage bloggers (myself included) too often default to vintage dresses with full skirts, peep-toes and a red lip--very 50s style really. Johanna Ost is an exception taking notes from decades earlier with notes from the 30s and 40s, and experimenting with a variety of vintage turbans and hats. Her vintage is anything but boring or typical. </div>

A lot of times when people think of minimal they think of very simple color palettes--stoic clothing without any embellishment or color. But for me minimalism means minimal; it means clean lines when you layer and a single statement accessory (also often on the small size, like a book clutch). Harley Viera-Newton definitely seems to prescribe to the same idea. Her outfits are always chic and stream-lined. I don't know much about her or her blog, but spent a few hours digging through her archives and loving every outfit post so much that I knew I had to feature her here. I think what I like about her style so much is how put together every outfit is even when she plays with styles and genres there's always complimentary makeup and jewelry to the look that sets her apart from the crowd. Anyway, I might be late to join the party by only finding her blog recently, but I'm making up for lost time.</div></div>

Lately I've been wondering why most of my "style crushes" are from the past--not even just vintage actresses but even blog style around five years old...But anyway back to Elin: her photography always stood out from the pack and I coveted her white-blonde bob and statement tights.  Her style was a mix of vintage, modern, and minimal. I like the way she mixed vintage with H&M finds and wasn't afraid to play with colors crafting an achievable style that was both relatable and covetable. Her signature details were red lips, hair bows, and quirky tights. She always stood out without look over the top. She's a former buyer for Opening Ceremony (which comes as no surprise considering you can find her in many pieces available at Opening Ceremony that I have coveted in the past...) who now works as a freelance stylist. White dresses might be her signature street style look (she reportedly owns 25 white dresses) with an Olympia Le-Tan purse and platform heels, she definitely plays around with other looks. I really admire the way she goes from loose baby doll style dresses with socks to completely polished looks in tea-length skirts with blazers. While she wears mostly vintage and looks quite retro head-to-toe I find it very inspiring the way she plays with color, pattern, and texture--vintage gingham seems to look twice as sweet with a polka dot scarf, a geometric dress is even more dynamic with jeweled heels, and every outfit has more punch with red lips and curls. I've been following her blog for years and while her style hasn't changed, I haven't grown bored yet!
