For one thing I'm now (temporarily) a blonde. Also, I'm back in Northern Ireland. And I'm engaged! Woohoo! I had barely landed in Dublin before Thomas whisked me off to his favorite beach and went down on one knee. Between the lovely location, beautiful vintage ring, and his sweet proposal I couldn't help but say yes. Apple Blossom Season

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/1v021/edited-33_zps84a3a657.jpg" /><br />I nearly missed apple blossom season before I left Ireland--we took these pictures on the sunset of my last day in Northern Ireland. The blossoms weren't as full as they probably are now, but the orchards were still very beautiful and striking. Summer will always be my favorite season, yet there's definitely something wonderful about spring as the world goes from cold and grey to full bloom overnight. Ironically my dress echoes the spring blossoms, when I acquired this dress last fall and wore it around the farm in Ireland while the orchard was full of apples and picking season was nigh. I left the dress at Thomas's house (along with these heels! and a few other pieces) last October when I returned to the States. I suppose it was rather forward of me to leave pieces behind, assuming I'd receive an invitation to visit again, but since it did work out it was quite convenient to have a few pieces waiting at his house to wear and save me space in my suitcase for other things. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/1v021/edited-4_zpsff406f04.jpg" /><br />Today I try to look as quintessentially Irish as possible…Or at least it would appear. I didn't actually pack my favorite vintage dress thinking "oh this will look so Irish" and I bought the beret during my visit to the Aran Isles since it seemed like a practical keepsake and the color suited by hair, but when you put everything all together I feel a bit like a caricature. Still, I'm going with it--I really like all of these pieces which feel so good and easy to wear. Sometimes I have a dress I feel like dynamite in but the actual physical sensation is difficulty to breathe or constant pulling down of the hem; this outfit manages to feel good on multiple levels even the shoes are comfortable enough to walk for miles in. Even if no one else enjoys the look at least I know I'll always have a friend in Timmy (the cat). Timmy's gone blind although it doesn't seem to bother him much and one of my parents' dogs has gone deaf, so I keep thinking they should meet and begin a series of hijinks that will ultimately lead to a cartoon in their honor. Aran Isles

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/1v017/_MG_1920-2_zpsd404e933.jpg" /><br />Call it fate, call it chance, but it seemed inevitable to me that if I got a dress with a bicycle print on it I would eventually wear said dress while riding a bike. Despite not having ridden anything other than a stationary bike at the gym in more than five years, I knew it would happen. My first opportunity arose on our trip to the Aran Isles where the main mode of transportation for tourists is bicycles--the rental shops start advertising their rates and bonuses as you board the ferry to get to the islands and are waiting for you right off the dock when you arrive. I was a bit of a mess our first day on the bikes (swerving into hedges and general wobbling), but I recovered quite a bit the second. In the end it actually made me want a bicycle again, although I'm not very interested in riding around on it in my current home in the city--maybe if I lived somewhere with less traffic.<br />The Aran Islands themselves were quite beautiful and we lucked into amazing weather during our visit--a few bold tourists were even wading at the beaches and one truly brave individual managed to swim with a dolphin at the harbor in Inisheer. The islands are unique in several ways, being one of the last places where Gaelic is still used as the main language, the excess of stone walls covering the region, and of course, the name aran sweaters--to name a few. It was quite fun to hear people speaking Irish and it definitely interested me in learning the language. I was also quite fascinated by the sheer excess of stone walls--our host at the place where we stayed quipped that he had a couple hundred acres of lands but they were mostly rock! And he added later that people probably built so many walls out of boredom. Whatever the reason they're definitely an interesting feature to experience today and we had a good time finding paths between them and exploring all over two of the islands in the chain.
