There's a drive-in movie theatre not too far from where I live in Pennsylvania but for some reason or another my friends and I keep neglecting to visit it--maybe this summer will finally be the time. I have no personal memories of a drive-in movie beyond the impressions they always made in the movies from the 50s and 60s that I grew up on. Apparently, the first drive-in movie theater opened in 1933 in New Jersey and LIFE magazine recently share a brilliant gallery of pictures from drive-in theaters that celebrate the quickly fading pastime.
