For accurate 50s vintage channeling it's all about the details: an outfit is co-ordinated from head-to-toe, accessorizing should be focused on brooches and satchel purses rather than an "arm party" or loads of rings, and skirt hems should rarely rise above the knee. Just look at Dita Von Teese--as provocative as she or her outfits usually seem to be, her skirt lengths are downright modest. I usually get a little lost in the details and my brooch collection is woefully limited, but I'm trying to focus on the details when I can.<br /><div></div><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0270_zpsee67f216.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0045_zpsd113a9e5.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0281_zpsa3dacd7c.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0011-2_zpsf0c956de.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0284_zps0484fd77.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0102-2_zps106bb3c1.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1v/_MG_0287_zps2603c1eb.jpg" /><br /><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: right;">Outfit details:</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-5617630-10968135?url=http%3A%2F%2Fshopruche.com%2Fangelina-coat-by-darling-uk.html%3Futm_source%3DCJ%26utm_content%3Dproductfeed%26utm_campaign%3DCJ_Products&cjsku=29645" target="_blank">Shop Ruche coat</a> (sold out, <a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Fcoats%2Fharvest%2Dfest%2Dcoat" target="_blank">similar</a>)</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://rstyle.me/n/ckjvnhu7e" target="_blank">ASOS sweater</a></div><div style="text-align: right;">thrifted belt</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Fdresses%2Fcheck%2Dthis%2Dout%2Ddress" target="_blank">dress ℅ Modcloth</a> (worn as skirt)</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Ftights%2Flayer%2Dit%2Don%2Dtights%2Din%2Dblack" target="_blank">Modcloth tights</a></div><div style="text-align: right;">Seychelles oxfords (old)</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://rstyle.me/n/esu4ahu7e" target="_blank">FOSSIL purse</a></div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=761928&b=417942&m=43745&afftrack=&urllink=www%2Emodcloth%2Ecom%2Fshop%2Fgloves%2Fthe%2Dpom%2Dthat%2Di%2Dwant%2Dglovettes%2Din%2Dblack" target="_blank">mittens</a>, gift</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/15904/the-clothes-horse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Bloglovin</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://twitter.com/aclotheshorse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Twitter</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://www.facebook.com/aclotheshorse?v=wall" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Facebook</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://theclotheshorse.tumblr.com/" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Tumblr</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://instagram.com/aclotheshorse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Instagram</a></div></div>

Vulpecula

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1226_zps5d2cbbae.jpg" /><br />As much fun as it is shopping for others this holiday season when Lucky and Fossil asked me to choose a couple of pieces, I quite enjoyed shopping for myself. The holiday collection was inspired by the Northern Lights and while it is obvious in some pieces like a constellation stitched on a wallet, it is more subtle in others--like my <a href="http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12052&langId=-1&catalogId=25005&categoryId=331153&cm_vc=331153&pn=&productId=22515616&imagePath=JA6226998&cm_mmc=HolidayValueAdd-_-Lucky-_-ClothesHorseBlog-_-GlitzFoxJA6226" target="_blank">glitz fox necklace</a> which is cute and one of my favorite animals but perhaps also a nod to Vulpecula or the "little fox" constellation in the northern sky. It's a very faint constellation so I've never been able to discern it on dim nights or find it among the myriad of stars on clear nights, but it is one of my favorite illustrations of a constellation--the fox has an unlucky goose in its mouth. Anyway, even though it is shopping from a selection of pieces especially chosen for this season, I try to choose items that will be wearable at multiple occasions and at different times of the year. I thought <a href="http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12052&catalogId=25005&productId=22455814&langId=-1&Ntt=zb5413841&beginIndex=0&pageSize=60&pn=sr&cm_vc=2020&categoryId=331141&imagePath=ZB5413001&cm_mmc=HolidayValueAdd&-_-Lucky&-_-StyleCollective&-_-MemoirNovelZB5413" target="_blank">this purse</a> fit that description quite nicely--the warm color works with autumnal tones now but could easily be styled with pastels and brighter colors in spring and summer. And as much as I plan to use it again and again, I wouldn't mind the same purse in multiple colors because of the classic shape and perfect size (I am often reminded of the tale of <i>Goldilocks and The Three Bears</i> when women talk about their purses, "and this bag is just right"). These new pieces definitely complete my shopping for myself for the year so it's time to ask for some wishlists from my friends and family...<br />*This post was written as part of a collaboration with Lucky Magazine and Fossil; all opinions expressed within it are my own.<br /><div></div><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1008_zpsc20f839f.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1303_zps2832faff.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1049_zpsa9f31526.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1187_zpsd321b4f1.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1287_zpsd0522b43.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1142_zpsdcc54d23.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1255_zpsfac4b8c5.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1328_zpsa44bfbbc.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1209_zpsdea8ade3.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1323_zps599a20de.jpg" /><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/_MG_1036_zps621a17df.jpg" /><br /><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: right;">Outfit details:</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12052&langId=-1&catalogId=25005&categoryId=&cm_vc=2020&pn=sr&productId=22507020&imagePath=JA6222998&Ntt=glitz%20fox=HolidayValueAdd-_-Lucky-_-ClothesHorseBlog-_-GlitzFoxJA6226" target="_blank">Fossil fox necklace</a><br />Zara coat (<a href="http://rstyle.me/~Wh5b" target="_blank">similar</a>)</div><div style="text-align: right;">Family Affairs blouse </div><div style="text-align: right;">old dress</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://rstyle.me/n/cs6nchu7e" target="_blank">UO tights</a></div><div style="text-align: right;">Jeffrey Campbell heels (<a href="http://rstyle.me/~Wh9u" target="_blank">similar</a>)</div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12052&catalogId=25005&productId=22455814&langId=-1&Ntt=zb5413841&beginIndex=0&pageSize=60&pn=sr&cm_vc=2020&categoryId=331141&imagePath=ZB5413001&cm_mmc=HolidayValueAdd&-_-Lucky&-_-StyleCollective&-_-MemoirNovelZB5413" target="_blank">Fossil Memoir Novel Flap purse</a></div><div style="text-align: right;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/15904/the-clothes-horse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Bloglovin</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://twitter.com/aclotheshorse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Twitter</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://www.facebook.com/aclotheshorse?v=wall" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Facebook</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://theclotheshorse.tumblr.com/" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Tumblr</a><span style="text-align: center;"> | </span><a href="http://instagram.com/aclotheshorse" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Instagram</a></div></div>
