In "Mutters Schuhe" Nina Roder captures three generations of her family in the same outfits and scene. The images hold further poignancy as Roder re-creates scenes from her mother's life--her work as a hairdresser, or her disastrous prom night that started when her date brought her carnations. Front and center is the power of influence; Roder's reflection on growing up in a house of feisty women. No one creates in a vacuum and all artists will have pieces of what is influencing them reflected in their work, but in this series Roder seeks to capture what is usually the impetus.
