Reddening October Trees

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/g6a_zpsed4031c9.jpg" /><br />While I've gone pumpkin-picking with friends back in Pennsylvania for a couple of years now it's been awhile since I actually carved a pumpkin--they look quite festive without any embellishment and if I did back any alterations it was usually just cutting a hole in the top to steal the seeds for baking. Everything has been feeling marvelously Halloween-festive lately though and I finally carved a pumpkin with a face; I went the traditional route and since a four-year-old voted my pumpkin the best I get to feel superior to the other pumpkin-carvers...There will definitely be more carving and perhaps a little seed eating tonight along with piles of candy because when you're an adult you don't have to troll through neighborhoods in hopes of a few candy bars but can buy as many as you want at the store. Then the lake's high salt content coats the corpses in sodium carbonate preserving them along the water's edge. As a kid I was often excited about the prospect of free candy in quantities beyond my imaging but aside from the year I went as a birthday cake costumes were often an afterthought or hand-me-down and I recall finding all the walking around the neighborhood a bit too cold to be exciting. As an adult the Halloween parties I attend are still few and far between and while sometimes I think it'd be fun to dress up as Ash (from Fantastic Mr Fox) ultimately I procrastinate and putting together a costume ends up feeling too time-consuming to be worthwhile. Still, in recent years I've done my fair share of pumpkin picking, carving, and eating and there's a little bit of the Halloween spirit in all that, that is rubbing off on me. Anyway, I was initially drawn to this dress since it's not a typical silhouette and it looked like it would travel well, the on-theme colors are just a plus today. Thumbelina

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img border="0" src="http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z301/theclotheshorse/1x/p19i_zpsc09da5d7.jpg" /><br />These oversized weeds remind me of <em>Jumanji</em>--specifically the carnivorous plants in that movie that attempt to eat humans with rather fevered relish. You'd think the photosynthesizing things hadn't seen a decent meal in years. These plants hardly devour adults, but they do have a bite. Giant hogweed (as I'm told this plant is) is similar to poison ivy; contact with skin can cause a painful rash...something I was wholly aware and paranoid of as I climbed among the oversized leaves and spiked stems.
